Function of Art & Me

I think that there are multiple functions of art that apply to me. Some of my favorite art is kind of dark and would probably be considered Death and Morbidity, but I don't really think of myself as the morbid type. When I paint, I use a lot of color and texture and I really like to paint people so I would consider that psychological expression of personal art and the relationship aspect of love, sex, and relationships. Music really inspires me also. Some of my favorite artists are O.A.R., Incubus, The Rolling Stones, and Avenged Sevenfold. I guess I can't really identify with only one function of art but I guess if I absolutely had to I would say aesthetic expression because as long as something looks good to you, speaks to you, or just makes you look at it, I would say it is worth it and I guess that is how I feel about a lot of issues in my life. When it comes to my art, I like to paint people, so I guess I would say I also relate closely to the personal function of relationships. I would have put up some pictures of my art on this site but the only one I have at my apartment here in La Crosse is still in progress and the rest of my work is at my parents house back home. Unfortunately, also, some of my art got ruined in a fire we had this summer so that kind of set me back. So I guess the rest of the site will just have to explain how I relate to these functions of art.

Some Pictures to Explain myself a little.

Here's a picture of me and my favorite person, my mom. She's my best friend and I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have without her unconditional support.

This is a picture of my adorable godchild Hannah Kathleen. Having her in my life has taught me a lot about kids and how to be a positive influence and role model in a child's life.

If my mom is my #1, then this girl is my #2 for sure. Her name is Kelly Nolan and she is an alumnus of UW-La Crosse. She helped me through a lot of tough times and taught me to persevere to achieve my goals. She is a really good mentor and I love her as if she were my sister.

This work is by Leonid Afremov, I like this because of the color, texture, because it is oil and he doesn't always use a brush, he used a palette knife, which give it a really unique texture.

Another on of Afremov's that I like a lot. He is really good at showing emotion and movement through color and texture.
